WHAT IS ACRYLIC? Acrylic is a superior compound of natural minerals and acrylic developed as solid surface material for residences and commercial venues. Its compound contains 1/3 acrylic resin (PMMA) and 2/3 aluminium-trihydrate pigments. Acrylic provides design elasticity, functionality and endurance. Acrylic panels offered as plates, sinks and washbasins can be shaped with wood processing tools to suit almost every design.
PROPERTIESSolid colours and textures remain the same all over the material and do not wear out. Acrylic is solid and does not get delaminated. Borderless surfaces can be formed by uniting the junctures in way that they are not seen. Side details thickened with rotational baseboards can be produced in a uniform view with unnoticeable junctures. Long counters are produced piece by piece in workshops and united with unnoticeable juncture in the installation site. Hygienic: Acrylic surfaces are hygienic.
Thanks to its pore-free structure, bacteria and moulds cannot find any place to hide. Thanks to uniform and rotational baseboard details and unnoticeable junctures, acrylic provides unique hygiene. If acrylic seems clean, it is really clean. Repairable acrylic surfaces can be easily returned to their original view with nonabrasive rubbing sponges. For instance, cigarette burns can be easily removed with this method. Damages caused by misuse and accident can be repaired most of the time. With its natural ability to be repaired and endurance, acrylic is also technologically compatible. Harmless: Acrylic is chemically inert, not toxic and hypoallergenic material. It does not emit gas at normal room temperature. Acrylic makes use of the flame retarder feature of aluminium-trihydrate that is one of its main components. The smoke produced by fire is optically light and does not contain toxic halogen gasses.
Thanks to these properties, acrylic is intensely and safely used in public spaces with applications such as airport counters, in hospital operating rooms and ICUs as walls or working surfaces and on passenger ships. Light transmittance of semi transparent Acrylic is fairly striking especially in light colours. Many designers use this property in lighting applications. Light gives more prominence to three dimensionality of acrylic. Can be processed like wood: Acrylic can be processed like wood using similar tools.
